Joy of Communism?

Bill Joy most definitely is not a communist.

But, when you try to grasp the approach of communism towards society on a purely abstract level, it is an effort to subject mankind (being that mankind is the highest -known- form of life, one could also say: subjecting life) to rationality.
Rationality, however, is a strategy that works fine for individuals and even for societies, when they try to achieve tangible goals: produce computers, planes, cars etc.
To a certain (lesser) degree it even works to attain more abstract objectives: education, health etc.

Communism was an effort to consciously construct a society that would make people live happily ever after. This was not exactly the Marxist idea of how communism develops in history (Marx was assuming that the road towards a communist paradise was the inevitable course of things). But of course, on the practical level, communists were trying to construct the desired kind of society.

Auf der Suche nach Jared Diamond fand ich Dr. Joachim Jung. Ton, Tusch, Titel: "Die Korruption der Vernunft". Donnerwetter! dachte ich, da stehe ich ja vor einem intellektuellen Geschütz vom Dicke-Berta-Kaliber. So ähnlich wie bei Robert Kurz, der sich kurz mal so Gedanken über "Der ontologische Bruch" macht. Aber immer schön der alphabetischen Reihenfolge nach, oder: "Warte, Robert, noch ein Weilchen, dann kommt Burkhardt auch zu dir!"

KEINE JUNGFRAU ZÄHMT DIESES ZWEIHORN oder MEIN MYTHENLOGISCHER UMWELT-PESSIMISMUS

Gestern Abend, am Mittwoch, den 02.11.2005, war er da, der Polyhistor Jared Diamond, Physiologe, Biologe und aktuell Geograph (und - gemäßigter - Umwelt-Optimist). Wie in dem verlinkten FAZ-Artikel beschrieben, spricht "Der Amerikaner, der die Welt retten will" [ziemlich reißerischer Titel für das Zentralorgan der bundesdeutschen Bourgeoisie!] ein grammatikalisch fehlerfreies Deutsch; einen bayerischen Akzent konnte ich dabei allerdings nicht ausmachen. Deutsch ist übrigens nur eine von zwölf Sprachen, die er beherrscht.

Der größte Fehler in der Menschheitsgeschichte?

Unter diesem Titel, auf Englisch natürlich (The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race) hat der Biologe, Physiologe, Geograph und Polyhistor Jared Diamond (Wikipedia-Einträge: dt. = http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Diamond bzw. engl. = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Diamond) einen Aufsatz verfasst (http://www.awok.org/Essays/DiamondWorstMistake).
