A 3-professor racket to rob the German (and other) taxpayers. Stuart Holland propagates "A Modest Proposal for Resolving the Eurozone Crisis" (co-authored with Yanis Varoufakis and James K. Galbraith)

On the website City A. M. Prof. Stuart Holland (who is also the author of “Europe in Question – and what to do about it”), has published an article  under the title "How to fix the crisis: Germany must allow Greeks a New Deal" (Febr. 18, 2015).
In it, he propounds the idea of joint investments in the countries of the European Monetary Union through what amounts to government agencies (European Investment Bank and European Investment Fund).

Varoufakis' Suckonomics 1001

In July 2013, a Greek Prof. of economics named Yanis (Gianis or Giannis) Varoufakis had published (together with the co-authors Stuart Holland and James K. Galbraith) the latest Version (4.0) of a paper under the title "
A Modest Proposal for Resolving the Eurozone Crisis".
In January 27, 2015, Prof. Yanis Varoufakis (
Wikipedia) has become Greece's Finance Minister in the new coalition government formed by the political parties Coalition of the Radical Left (Syriza) and the smaller right-wing-party Independent Greeks (ANEL) under Syriza Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
In all likelyhood, Prof. Varoufakis considers the paper to be a blueprint for his activities.

Mostly Model Tailoring against the Miraculous Money Treat of Modern Monetary Theory (MMT)

Cullen Roche has written a brillant in-depth "Critique of Modern Monetary Theory (MMT)" (Nov. 2013, unfortunately not paginated).
While he hopes that "this critique will be viewed as a constructive criticism and not an attack on MMT", at times he still does get pretty irritated with "doublespeak",  "sloppy ... terminology", "sloppy generalization" etc. of MMT-proponents. And in the context of how payments are effected through the VISA system he concludes that "[Stephanie] Kelton does not even have the most basic facts right."
So let as take a look at some other facts which MMTers assert (or which we can logically discern as facts behind their verbal constructs) and analyze, with the help of models, the truth value of those claims.

MMT: Modern Monetary Theory - or Monstrous Mental Twisting?

Some 400 - 500 years ago, Nicolaus Copernicus and Johannes Kepler revolutionized astronomy by replacing the geocentric model (geocentrism or Ptolemaic system - Wikipedia) by heliocentrism (heliocentricism).
These days, a clique of economists is trying to turn back the hands of time and obfuscate the understanding of the relationship between money and the real economy.

In preaching their self-referential chartalist money-money-merry-go-round they employ brainwashing techniques in lieu of sound arguments.
The name of this monetary creationism is "Modern Monetary Theory" (MMT).

list of and hyperlinks to MMT-publications as of July 2013 can be found here.]

Banks do not lend reserves (or deposits). But banks need reserves (and deposits) to lend. Remarks on the BoE-paper "Money creation in the modern economy"

Vorbemerkung für deutschsprachige Besucher (Preface for German-language visitors):

The current blog post is part of an ongoing email-exchange with John Bradford, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Sociology, Mississippi Valley State University, on the subject of money (creation etc.). I am grateful to prof. Bradford for calling my attention to the BoE paper on money creation (no. 2) which is the (main) subject of the following remarks.

----------------------------------------------------

In its Quarterly Bulletin 2014 Q1 the Bank of England is trying to clean up a mess of myths about money, in particular about how money is created (nowadays).

Two papers tackle this subject:
  1. "Money in the modern economy: an introduction" By Michael McLeay, Amar Radia and Ryland Thomas of the Bank’s Monetary Analysis Directorate. [Henceforce also quoted as "Introduction".]
  2. "Money creation in the modern economy" by the same authors. [Henceforce also quoted as "Money creation".]

As for the first paper, I will restrict my comment to the chapter "Money is an IOU" (p. 6).

Time to say goodbye: To slipshod definitions of "money" in economics! (Schluss mit schlamperten Gelddefinitionen in der Volkswirtschaftslehre!)

Vorbemerkung für deutschsprachige Besucher (Preface for German-language visitors):

-----------------------------------------
The subject of money, or, more precisely, the relationship between money and the real economy has interested me for some time.
I have written two blog posts about the creation of money
2.    "Das EBaKeBa-Modell von Geldschöpfung, Zinsen und Realwirtschaft" (Jan. 2014, there the German text is followed by my - original - version "The OBaNoCa model of money creation and interest in the real economy" in English.
Meanwhile, my interest in the subject hast been freshly fuelled by a highly stimulating email-correspondence with John Bradford, Ph.D., Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Sociology, Mississippi Valley State University. Besides drawing my attention to some informative literature on the subject which I had not known before, he sent me a list of definitions on money which he had gleaned from the writings of various economists.
Reading this and remembering what I myself had previously seen in many articles, blog posts and comments, but also in scientific papers, I came to the conclusion that there is definitely room for improvement in those definitions of money presently out on the market.
The following suggestions to define money are an adapted version of two of my emails in the abovementioned correspondence. I very much hope that these definitions will update our understanding of how money works, and thereby our research into what money does.
Much as Alfred Mitchell Innes deserves credit for his credit theory of money ("WHAT IS MONEY?", 1913), you might expect that even in economics 100 years later human knowledge did advance to some extent and should today be able to present a much clearer and more detailed picture of what money "is".

Das EBaKeBa-Modell von Geldschöpfung, Zinsen und Realwirtschaft

For the (original) version in English see below.

Weitere Überlegungen zur Target2-Debatte: Zum Blogposting "Right on TARGET" von "Rebeleconomist"

The following text is a response to the entry "Right on TARGET" (already of July 6, 2011, but with a discussion thread active until Febr. 2012) in the blog "Reserved Place" by the blogger "Rebeleconomist". My commentary was too long (some 15.000 instead of the allowed 4.096 signs), so I posted only the beginning in "Reserved Place", and the whole thing here.

"Rebeleconomist" doesn't seem to have been active lately, so possibly I won't see any response. And it is rather unlikely that many people will read my present entry  here. However, it has been useful to me to start sorting my ideas, and to give the highly deserved credits to Bernd Klehn for his discovery (see below).
So whatever will happens to this text, it definitely has not been a wasted effort for me.

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM "EXPLANATIONS" FOR DISEASES LIKE THE PLAGUE, OR MALARIA, ABOUT CURES FOR THE PRESENT CRISIS OF CAPITALISM

"economic literacy".
Hier also mein Text:

Much as I disagree with you, Pantelis Vassilakis, your contributions are stimulating me to be more precise about my thinking.
And if, before or in the following text, I may sound somewhat aggressive, it's not supposed to be offensive to you, but a challenge to reconsider your (plural: you and any reader of the text) preconceived opinions.

Folks are geared to "know" everything. Rather than admit we (in general discourse and, it seems to me, even in the "science" of economics - but not normally in the natural sciences) don't know this or that, we concoct an "explanation".

The plague in the Middle Ages was "explained" by human sin (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/jun/07/euro-scot-free-black-rat-eurozone). This is (to us today) obviously nonsense. It makes you feel like you "know" the cause, but doesn't give you the slightest help in fighting the plague.

."

Aufräumarbeiten enthüllen Ben Bernanke's Perspective of the American Financial System as SOWERED

It would certainly be appropriate to say that the financial system (particularly in the USA, but hardly to a lesser degree in much of Europe) has soured.

To Ben Bernanke, the fact that the financial 'industry' in the United States went sour must have come as an unpleasant surprise. He had, after all, always heralded the American financial system for being SoWeReD.
Those were the attributes he awarded to the financial markets
- Sophisticated (sophistication)
- Well regulated and
- Deep (depth):
insgesamt also: SoWeReD (for quotations see below).

To understand why finance sowered, you would have to understand the terms which Bernanke used in a somewhat different (nevertheless semantically legitimate) way from what he had in mind:

Joy of Communism?

Bill Joy most definitely is not a communist.

But, when you try to grasp the approach of communism towards society on a purely abstract level, it is an effort to subject mankind (being that mankind is the highest -known- form of life, one could also say: subjecting life) to rationality.
Rationality, however, is a strategy that works fine for individuals and even for societies, when they try to achieve tangible goals: produce computers, planes, cars etc.
To a certain (lesser) degree it even works to attain more abstract objectives: education, health etc.

Communism was an effort to consciously construct a society that would make people live happily ever after. This was not exactly the Marxist idea of how communism develops in history (Marx was assuming that the road towards a communist paradise was the inevitable course of things). But of course, on the practical level, communists were trying to construct the desired kind of society.

Alpine Fairytale

Here in Germany (or, for that matter, anywhere in Europe) you would probably have to use a magnifying glass to find very many followers of president Bush and his like (or ilk). (If you want to get an idea, why I personally don't care for his ideological stance, take a look at my blog - the only one in English, the rest are in German - "THE B(RAT) IN THE BOX AT THE ULTIMATE LEVER?"

Nevertheless, the liberal use of words like "moron", "asshole", "freeze-dried brain" [I really like that one (] etc. is not an adequate substitute for a rational analysis of the chain of causation which has led to those consequences of the natural disaster, that could have been avoided if adequate measures with a reasonable cost-benefit ratio had been taken in advance.

Lawn / Rasen:

In his essay "The end of false progress. Origins of materialism, and implications for our future in the post-petroleum reality" (http://www.culturechange.org/e-letter-endfalseprogress.html) Jan Lundberg (whoever that is) comes up with a striking definition of the term "lawn":
"The biological pavement known as lawns".

False Teachers in and on our Environment?

If I were a Christian believer, I'd be truly worried. At least after having read Thomas Brooks "Seven Characteristics of false Teachers" (http://www.mountainretreatorg.net/eschatology/7char.html). Edit the text a little , and you can easily get the impression like he was describing the current debate between "Neo-Malthusians" and "Cornucopians" or "Abundance Ecologists".
